Lemon curd tarts

Lemon curd tarts

When this months Sweet Adventures Blog Hop rolled around and we decided on lemons, about a billion recipes ran through my mind. I wanted to do something fancy, Stud wanted cheesecake. That all went out the window the day that I received my Bourke Street Bakery book in the post. ZOMG! This book has very quickly (and when I say quickly, I mean instantly) become my Baking Bible. So it was reasonably inevitable that I was to search this book, and this book alone, for a lemon dessert. Lemon curd tarts? Simple yes, but delicious none the less. I love the way that these are the right amount of sourness from the lemons and not too sweet at all. The actual recipe made WAY more than necessary so you could really quarter the filling recipe for this. I like to have leftovers to have as toppings for, ummm, everything...

April’s Sweet Adventures Blog Hop – Lemons

As you guys know, I don’t eat as much fruit as I should. Although I have used lemons in desserts before, making Stud’s favourite Lemon Meringue Pie and also a couple of tarts here and there, I mostly use lemons in my everyday savoury cooking. Preserved lemons are also great in savoury dishes so I’m quite excited about this months Sweet Adventures Blog Hop - Lemons. This month, the lovely Jen at Delicieux is hosting and I cant wait to see what all you fab foodies out there some up with. Head on over to Delicieux to check out all of the details, but as usual, the Sweet Adventures Blog Hop  is brought to you by Delicieux, 84th & 3rd, The Hungry Australian, Dining With a Stud (that’s me ), and The Capers of the Kitchen Crusader Better get your lemons ready peeps!

Bailey’s white chocolate entremet

Bailey’s white chocolate entremet

I’m a sucker for reality TV. I’m also one of THE biggest fans of Lifestyle Food and any cooking show in general. SO, when Top Chef – the show that combines my love for reality and obsession for food – aired their spin-off show “Top Chef – Just Desserts”, I was more than a little excited. It is from Season 2 of said show that I have drawn my inspiration for March’s Sweet Adventures Blog Hop – Layer upon Layer. One episode in particular, there was a challenge where the chef’s had to create an Entremet, a multi-layered mousse-based cake with various complementary flavours and varying textural contrasts. As I watched it, ray of light shone in my lounge-room, right on my temple and the foodie Gods harmonised in unison “ahhhhhhhhhhh”. Ok that may not have happened, but I did turn to Stud like an excited 5 year old...

March Sweet Adventures blog hop!

Shrek: For your information, there’s a lot more to ogres than people think. Donkey: Example? Shrek: Example… uh… ogres are like onions! Donkey: They stink? Shrek: Yes… No! Donkey: Oh, they make you cry? Shrek: No! Donkey: Oh, you leave ‘em out in the sun, they get all brown, start sproutin’ little white hairs… NO! Layers. Onions have layers. Ogres have layers. Onions have layers. You get it? We both have layers. Donkey: Oh, you both have LAYERS. Oh. You know, not everybody like onions. What about cake? Everybody loves cake! Shrek: I don’t care what everyone else likes! Ogres are not like cakes. Donkey: You know what ELSE everybody likes? Parfaits! Have you ever met a person, you say, “Let’s get some parfait,” they say, “Hell no, I don’t like no parfait”? Parfaits are delicious! Shrek: NO! You dense, irritating, miniature beast of burden! Ogres are like onions!...

Chocolate Whoopie Pies with Peanut Butter Cream

So what did you guys do this Valentine’s Day? Me? I made whoopie. Get your mind out of the gutter! Ay? No! Well, maybe, but that’s none of your beeswax!! teehee No, what I meant was, I tried my hands at whoopie pies and hey, they were a hit! When the “Love at First Bite” gauntlet was thrown for February’s Sweet Adventures blog hop challenge, I had a billion recipes running through my mind. Narrowing down those recipes to something I hadn’t tried before, and something that was really special to me and my new husband, I had a pretty tough decision to make. So like any food blogger who cant choose between two dishes, I took the only road I could, and did both. This post however, contains only one of those recipes (stay tuned for the other later in the month). A quick welcome and thank you...

When Jen Le Delicieux, JJ 84th & 3rd, Christina Hungry Australian, Heather Kitchen Crusader and I were chatting one evening about a blog hop, we had no idea it could turn in to Sweet Adventures. Its been a great 4 months worth of hops so far and it has been so great seeing what everyone comes up with. Thanks to you fabulous food bloggers. You are a mighty creative bunch aren’t you?? Ay?? Aren’t you?? So, in the spirit of all things dessert, myself and the very lovely ladies from Sweet Adventures are proud to bring you this months theme “Love at First Bite!” which will take place on Monday 20th February (9am Sydney time ). As you may have noticed (and if you didn’t, I’m slightly offended ), its been pretty quiet here on the DWAS site. That’s because January has been a big month. Early Jan was...

It’s such a great time of year! Everyone is really festive and mostly drunk from all the Christmas parties lol – it’s jut a happy time. If I had my way, it would be Christmas all year round in our household. Stud has to reign me in a bit – much to my dismay Normally each Christmas, I make a trifle, Christmas ice cream (vanilla ice-cream combined with mixed fruit and nut, and chocolate) and then maybe a fruit salad. This year, I wanted to make something different o with my...

Pavlova blog hop – my homage to Reese’s

As you may have seen on Twitter, today is D-day. The day when bloggers unite to bring you our version of the great (debatably) Aussie pavlova! After chatting with a few other food bloggers on Twitter some three weeks ago, about Reese’s (just hearing the word makes me happy),”Sweet Adventures” The Great Australian Pavlova Blog Hop was born and here we are, posting our very own versions of a pav. If you would like to be a part of future “Sweet Adventures” please comment below and we’ll be sure to send it around. Also, if you have any ideas of suggestions for our next Adventure, by all means. Share share It took me a while to come up with something. Do I go traditional? What about some kind of crazy fusion pav? Then it hit me!! Stud was out at the football; Bonnie and I were catching up on...

The Great Australian Pavlova Blog Hop

November 18, 2011

It’s amazing what can happen when you are on Twitter! Majority of the people I follow on Twitter and regularly connect with, are foodies (duh!). A part from the occasional celeb like Drita from Mob Wives (LOVE, and I’m not ashamed to say so!), my entire Twitter universe revolves around food. So I guess its not surprising that late one night while in a convo with Delicieux, Hungry Australian, JJ, and The Capers of the Kitchen Crusade about Reeses and their many uses, Hungry Australian mentioned she was doing a Pav for her next post. An hour or so (and a hogged Twitter feed) later, and we he had decided to do a blog hop! Now pardon my newbie ignorance, but I had no idea what a blog hop was lol! But I kind of got the gist of it a few emails later. Its quite simple actually –...
