Antipasto cob – The perfect picnic lunch

Sydney is pretty awesome at the moment. The sun is shining, the weather is sweet….makes you wanna move….your dancin’ feet yeah. Wait. Side tracked singing away to myself. The weather has been beautiful for the past few days and is a perfect time for a picnic. Ariane suggested we all head to Bicentenary Park so the boys could have a bit of a kick around and we could have a girly chat on the grass. About a million recipes went through my mind, but one had stuck since I made it a couple of years ago when Stud and I were living over at Cammeray. We had a perfect little Artisan Bakery up the street and would grab a batard (or five) every weekend but when all they had was a cob, I tried my hand at some layering with some beautifully char grilled veg and thinly sliced meat....

The Winery – Surry Hills

The Winery – Surry Hills

I have been dying to try Zushi for years (no really…..years!) so when Stud and I had nothing to do one Saturday I convinced him that lunch at Zushi what the perfect idea! Unfortunately when we arrived, it was closed.  Apparently they dont open for lunch on the weekends which is unusual to me as sushi is definitely a lunch time thing. Ok you can have it for dinner but I’d say business would still be booming at lunch, no? We walked up and down Crown for about 20 minutes and when we had almost given up hope, I spotted a cute little café looking oasis not too far from where we were. Upon further inspection, I realised it was The Winery, another one on my hit list ever since I went to the Gazebo Wine Garden a couple of years back. It was around 12:30 and the balcony...

Imperial Peking Restaurant – Blakehurst

Imperial Peking Restaurant – Blakehurst

With my new found love for yum cha, we had organised a lunch with a few friends to try out a place not far from home right in time for Christmas. We arrived promptly at 11am and most of our party were already there so we sat and got down to business. I would highly suggest not sitting in a high traffic area as at one point both Stud and I had a person on either side of us trying to put food on our table. Do you know how hard it is to eat when you are swamped by two small women with scissors and dumplings?? These waiters/waitresses seemed to have no concept of personal space. That’s all I’ll say. The food however, was pretty damn good. We attempted to pace ourselves but lets be honest, if we want to pace ourselves, don’t put me in the high traffic area...

SIFF Let’s do Lunch @ Coast

Ahhhh school holidays. The time when the trains are invaded by screaming teens, the city is rife with groups of children visiting the big smoke and parents everywhere are screaming to their children “Don’t touch that! Get over here!”. The plus side to this time for me is that two friends of mine teach kindergarten and therefore are off work for a bludgy two weeks so we decided to meet for lunch to take advantage of the Crave food festival and also just for a good chit chat. After scouring the SIFF website for what seemed like hours, we decided to go to Coast for their Scallop Ravioli with a braised leek and sorrel cream. When we arrived we were seated and given the regular menu. We asked the waitress about the SIFF menu and she said “oh its ravioli”. Not wanting to order the incorrect thing, we asked...

Rhodes Phoenix

Rhodes Phoenix

It is with 50% shame and 50% excitement that I advise you that this marks my first Yum Cha experience. Yum Cha has been something I have been DYING to have for quite some time but things arise and it wasn’t to be. The girls got wind of this and decided it was high time I went along with them for an early morning session. I was collected from my home promptly at 9:30am on Sunday and off we headed to the infamous Rhodes Phoenix. I am very aware that this time of the morning is quite an unsavoury hour to be eating Chinese food but I am assured that you need to get there early as it gets packed out very quickly. We arrive and meet the rest of the clan out front at 10:15, head inside and are seated at an 8 seater table with a Lazy...
