High Tea @ Aki’s Indian – Woolloomooloo

I do love a girly catch up. I feel like if there are ladies, catching up on the goss and really just life in general, then high tea is in order. But there are only so many times you can do high tea before you are trying the same sandwiches, the same scones and the same petit four. Ok, usually the petit four is the different element depending on where you go, but you get my point! So, what are the girls to do when they want something different, but still dainty? Aki’s! I had seen a few reviews quite a while back about Aki’s but it was a newsletter from Lime & Tonic that prompted me to get my butt in to gear and actually book it. Unfortunately, the day we had booked, was actually a miserable day with rain, clouds and umbrellas as far as the eye...

Palak Paneer (from scratch)

Since the beginning of time, I have been obsessed with cheese. I can’t get enough of it and am in serious withdrawal stages at the moment due to our wedding diet. Although it’s probably for the best. It’s all or nothing with me and cheese. When Stud and I first started going out, we would buy a little picnic pack of a few types of cheeses, water crackers and brioche toasts and sit in bed, watching a DVD and having a cheese picnic. True story. Shameful, but true. Also thanks to this wedding diet, we are trying not to eat carbs at dinner. We allow ourself a little grace on weekends or if we go out somewhere special but for the most part, its not as hard as we had thought and are doing pretty well. Until that is, we had friends over for dinner on Saturday and I...

Slow cooker butter chicken

As you may or may not know, my mum doesn’t like chilli. Actually, I never use to like chilli either. Even now I’m a little scared of it, but I’ve built up my tolerance over the years and can deal with a little stronger than medium heat as long as I either have a glass or milk, or a glass of wine 😉 With my recent curry success (link) (if I do say so myself), I wanted to try another curry recipe for mothers day dinner at our place and seeing as mum isn’t a chilli fan, I thought butter chicken was the way to go. I got all my ingredients together the night before, prepped them in the morning and put them all in the slow cooker while we went to visit my grandparents to wish them a happy birthday and happy mother’s day also. Enough time for...

Zyka the Taste – Riverwood

Zyka the Taste – Riverwood

It’s hard to find a good Indian Restaurant – especially when your partner is originally from the UK and all you hear from his friends is how Australia doesn’t do Indian as good as the UK does – so we didn’t have especially high hopes to be honest. We had ordered take-away from Zyka a little while ago and although the food was nice, it was a little too spicy so the flavour was kind of lost. We had hoped it would be different when dining in so took a couple of our friends (one of them is half Indian) along with us for the experience. We were greeted at the door by a small child and the waiter. A little unsure, we advised of our booking and they seated us to a table towards the front. It wasn’t overly packed inside but there were enough people to constitute...
