Chocolate peanut butter ice-cream

Remember a little while ago I made that Angelic Hot Fudge Sauce? Simple, warming, delicious – and funnily enough, for a SABH! Well using similar ingredients, I’m flipping the temperature dial to cold – and I mean fuh-reez-ing – because this months Sweet Adventures Blog Hop is……Licence to Chill! I don’t know about you guys, but every time I say it (even in my head), I kind of do a “cool dude” voice. Its hard to explain, but it happens. I’m not proud of it. Anyway, the Feb hop is hosted by the lovely Heather over at The Capers of the Kitchen Crusader, so you can head over to her blog to find out all the deets on entering. But in the mean time, let me tell you a little about this dessert. So I’m kind of still on that health thing (a little more so now as the...

Strawberry and balsamic gelato – Queen at Home Gelato

Strawberry and balsamic gelato – Queen at Home Gelato

We buy a lot of jam at home. Not because we go through it quickly, but because when it comes to jam, Stud very much resembles Goldilocks. This one is too runny. This one is too lumpy. I don’t like the bits in this one. Etc, etc….. So when we find a jam that’s just right, we hold on to it! Meanwhile with all the leftover jam in our house, its hard to know what to do with them. Well no more! This dessert is one of those mutton dressed as lamb dishes…..In the difficulty department anyway. It by no means lack flavour, imagination or impressiveness. Using your Queen at Home Gelato Mix, you simply use your leftover jams and some balsamic vinegar, and you can come up with a strawberry (raspberry, blackberry…….you get the picture) and balsamic swirl gelato within half an hour. Perfect timing as the weather...

Salted Caramel Ice-cream

Salted Caramel Ice-cream

Suitably tipsy from my Margarita sorbet, I thought it best to do a more family friendly version for my next Queen flavour. Plus let’s face it, who doesn’t like salted caramel? You need to make sure you really salt the caramel in this recipe. I have put a guide but it’s really to taste, just make sure you oversalt it as it will balance a lot when you stir it in to the sweet gelato base. If you don’t have a slow cooker, you can do this on the stove but be sure to keep the temperature low. You may also want to pierce the can to avoid it exploding. Salted Caramel Ice-cream Ingredients 1 x Queen Vanilla Gelato 650ml full cream milk 1 x can Condensed milk 2 tbs sea salt Method Place can of condensed milk (unopened) in a slow cooked and fill until can is submerged....

Coconut Bubble Tea Ice-Cream

I have drunk more than my weight in tea lately. Now that’s a lot of tea (post wedding weight gain included)! I normally drink a bit of tea, I’d say around three cups a day on average, but as you may or may not know, I recently went through hip surgery. An arthroscopy and bumpectomy (yup, that’s its real name) to be exact, and spent the last two weeks couped up at home, shuffling around firstly on crutches, and then rocking a pimp cane (refusing to call it a walking stick. At least a cane makes me a bit gangsta), making myself umpteen cups of tea. So it’s pretty appropriate that it’s this month’s Sweet Adventures Blog Hop theme. Ooh AND it’s also Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea on May 24th (More on why that’s fab later). So head on over to our lovely host JJ’s blog, 84th & 3rd...

Eggplant ice-cream

After a successful attempt at avocado ice-cream, I went on the look out for more weird and wonderful recipes and after the father daughter trip to the markets, we had eggplant a plenty in our fridge. Could there be a recipe for eggplant ice-cream? Surely there would have to be, but would it be a disaster? Would it need to be savoury? Could only a top chef make it? I wanted to find out! I had informed a few people here and there that I was thinking of making and eggplant ice-cream and they looked at me with disgust which fuelled me further down my eggplant path. Before you decide to click the close button and exit this post, you should know that this is a sweet ice cream as the eggplant is bathed in sugar for the better part of 48 hours before being stirred through a basic...

Avocado Ice cream

Avocado Ice cream

I am slightly avocado obsessed. When the shops aren’t charging $4 each, I am in avo heaven. Many have doubted my surefire hangover cure of avocado on toast seasoned with salt and pepper but I assure you all that it works a treat. AND you don’t get that seedy feeling that comes with inhaling bacon, eggs and sausages. Its the illusion of naughtiness and its fab! Dad and I went to Flemington markets last weekend to suss out whether it was worth us buying fruit and veg in bulk at cheap prices (and halving out loot when we returned home) or just buy small quantities from a regular fruit and veg shop. I took along Wheelie “the affectionate name given to my nanna trolley. FYI – The BEST $25 ever spent!!) and not only did we fill Wheelie, we then had to carry so many bags that the circulation was but...
