The High Tea Party @ The Westin Sydney

The High Tea Party @ The Westin Sydney

One of my bestest girlfriends gave birth (to my Godson no less) back in March so last time the High Tea Party rolled around, she was pregnant and not only couldn’t drink, but majority of the high tea food (smoked salmon, cream cheese, processed meats, etc) she couldn’t eat either. This year she was pumped and ready to drink and even got her hubby to drop her off and pick her up so she didn’t have to drive. Always a good start We arrived bright and early (9:30am) as we knew how packed it was last year and were already greeted with numerous ladies heading in the same direction as us. Damn it! Our High Tea sitting wasn’t until 12:30 so we got out hair, nails, tan and a little shopping done all before lunch time. Now that’s female efficiency! When we were seated at the High Tea, we...

Hands On cooking class @ Altitude, Sydney

Saturday morning for me was not unlike a 4 year old on the morning of Christmas eagerly waiting for her parents to wake up and shower her with gifts. Although in my case, it was eagerly waiting for my train to arrive at Wynyard, meet Rach and head on up to Altitude for our Hands On lunch cooking class. I have dined at Altitude twice before – this first time was for my birthday weekend where Stud booked us in to a Harbour view room and we had the degustation menu (our first degustation ever) and the second time was a Valentines Day dinner – both times we were really impressed with the venue (how could you not with the best view in Sydney), service and especially the menu. As Rach and I were walking up to the Shangri La, we were like two giggling schoolgirls pondering what on...

Balcony Bar – Erskine St, Sydney

I love that Sydney is embracing the small bar culture and there just happen to be three within a stones throw of my work with more popping up each month! The atmosphere at Balcony Bar is relaxed and unpretentious, definitely a change from the bigger bars in the area that thrive on their pretentious clientele and (for want of a more ladylike word) wanky vibes. This blog is short and sweet (much like Balcony Bar) and purely to let you know to eat the Balmain Bug and Prawn Gnocchi if you go there. It’s amazing! A very beige looking dish upon arrival, this dish taught me never to be too judgemental as its all about the flavour. This little guy is packed with it and is right up there with one of the best dishes I have had in a very long time! Go. Eat. Enjoy!

SIFF Let’s do Lunch @ Coast

SIFF Let’s do Lunch @ Coast

Ahhhh school holidays. The time when the trains are invaded by screaming teens, the city is rife with groups of children visiting the big smoke and parents everywhere are screaming to their children “Don’t touch that! Get over here!”. The plus side to this time for me is that two friends of mine teach kindergarten and therefore are off work for a bludgy two weeks so we decided to meet for lunch to take advantage of the Crave food festival and also just for a good chit chat. After scouring the SIFF website for what seemed like hours, we decided to go to Coast for their Scallop Ravioli with a braised leek and sorrel cream. When we arrived we were seated and given the regular menu. We asked the waitress about the SIFF menu and she said “oh its ravioli”. Not wanting to order the incorrect thing, we asked...

Afternoon Tea @ Sofitel Wentworth

Afternoon Tea @ Sofitel Wentworth

Catching up with the girls can be hard these days, especially when one has a four month old and the other has copious amounts of uni work to finish. Never the less, we had organised to do a get together High Tea (well Afternoon Tea as its called at the Wentworth) on the public holiday so that baby sitters and a free assignment pass could be obtained. We had made a booking for three and weren’t meant to meet out the front of the hotel at 2pm. I was running a little late as usual and when I sent a text to let them know, the girls relayed the hotel message that as it was a public holiday and not too many bookings were made, we were being seated in the lobby so they would sit and I would meet them there. Hmmmm the lobby? I arrived at around...

GPO Cheese and Wine Room

GPO Cheese and Wine Room

Bless me father for I have sinned, I have committed the cardinal sin of any food blogger……. Off to a girly dinner of cheese and wine, it was around 11am whilst performing a completely unrelated task at work that it struck me, no camera. Wait, what? No camera? But you are going out to dinner! I thought to myself, scalding myself in my head and probably looking quite blankly at my computer. Hopefully no one picked up on this as it might have scared my co-workers. Trying to think of ways to combat this catastrophe without A, costing too much money and B, still coming up with great quality pics. Nothing. So I apologise in advance for the quality of the pics as they were taken on my iPhone and we all know how the iPhone performs in low lit areas. Now on to my post – we arrived...

Subterranean Grill – GPO Sydney

Subterranean Grill – GPO Sydney

Upon entering GPO we are searching for signs to point us in the right direction of our reservation. Nothing. A fairly new addition to the family, Subterranean Grill is tucked away in the far corner of the underground that is GPO and a little hard to find but once you walk in, you are punched in the face with the fresh smell of garlic. In my opinion, there is no greater smell to be greeted with. More like an eat-in fast food place rather than a restaurant as you need to order and pay for both drinks and wine up at the counter. You are then given a beepy thing (as I like to call them) to summon you back to the counter to get your food. Eight food loving ladies and a menu of Greek food was a match made in heaven, trying to decide on which to...

Tetsuya’s

Our first restaurant review takes place on a very important date at a very important restaurant. It is none other than our five year anniversary, at no other place than Tetsuya’s. Our reservation was made three years ago and each year has been pushed back due to other commitments however this year we decided five years is an important milestone and should be celebrated as such. Both of us purchased a spanking new outfit and even booked a five star hotel room near the restaurant to ensure the half an hour taxi ride home wasn’t going to spoil the evening. With butterfly’s all day thinking of my evening to come I was so excited to finally taste the world renowned food from such a great chef. When we arrived it was pouring with rain which unfortunately spoiled my photo of the Zen-like front porch but we were very well...
