Adults Only Creme Egg Cupcakes

I wasn’t sure I was going to make this months SABH. March has been a bit of a blur in the DWAS household. With Stud’s parents arriving the first weekend, Stud’s birthday the weekend after, a 5 night stint in Melbourne for Grand Prix and then our US trip next weekend, this was really the only free time we had to get everything in order ready for said trip…..and I got sick. Argh!!! Pity party over, I did decide to whip up a little batch of Easter cupcakes with a twist. Remember the ones I made last year? I thought I’d go with the same principal but make then a little nostalgic, and a little bit naughty(er). You see this months hop is a Cocktail Party theme, and in our trip to Melbourne last weekend, a night at Polly produced a “Violet Crumble Martini”. Yes, you read that right. It...

Eggplant and choc-chunk cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting

When faced with an unusual challenge, or something that’s reasonably foreign to me, I do what most others do, I consult Google – the truth of all things in the universe! This challenge was the same. You see this month, JJ from 84th&3rd is our host for the November Sweet Adventures Blog Hop, and knowing JJ, I was prepared for something slightly (or extremely) left of centre. Boy did she throw us a curve ball. This months blog hop was Cake and Three Veg. Not too strange I hear you say? Pumpkin Pie, Carrot Cake, Beetroot Chocolate Mud Cake, easy! True, there are a number of dessert dishes out there that in fact include vegetables and they work well. I however, wanted to do something a little stranger shall we say? I wanted to live up to the challenge and so something that perhaps no one had done before....

Berry & Cream Cheese Pound Cake with Lemon Drizzle

It’s funny how our relationships with our parents go. You begin this life with such a need and dependency on your parents – yearning to be with them all of the time and share everything you encounter. Then you hit puberty, and begin to already know everything about this big world. You start to feel like your parents are holding you back. Not letting you go here or there, and definitely not understanding that they are doing it for you own good. Then you get older. I’m not quite sure at what point in my life it happened. I have always been really close with my parents (even through the odd tantrum for not letting me do something I probably shouldn’t be doing in the first place), but now, they are my best friends. I speak to my mum every day, yet we never run out of things to...

This months Sweet Adventures Blog Hop (#SABH) is “Festive Favourites” of course. What else? and hosted by the lovely JJ from 84th&3rd. Head on over to her SABH post for details on how you can join the hop with a bunch of other awesome food bloggers get involved! Its too much fun!! Christmas is definitely my favourite holiday. It’s such a great time of year! Everyone is really festive and mostly drunk from all the Christmas parties lol – it’s jut a happy time. If I had my way, it would be Christmas all year round in our household. Stud has to reign me in a bit – much to my dismay Normally each Christmas, I make a trifle, Christmas ice cream (vanilla ice-cream combined with mixed fruit and nut, and chocolate) and then maybe a fruit salad. This year, I wanted to make something different o with my...

1st birthday jungle cake

I have never been a massive fan of children. Anyone who knows me is aware of this and I was very sure to prep my family at an early stage that there might not be any grandkids. So when my best friend Ariane and her husband gave birth to their beautiful baby boy Nathan and asked me to be his Godmother my first reaction was “Ummm are you sure??” apparently they were! A year on and it was the little mans first birthday party on the weekend so in his honour, I decided to attempt making a cake. Cakes I can do, fondant covered cakes with fondant animals, I wasn’t so sure about. I had told his mum I would make it and would do a “dry run” early on so I knew whether or not I could make it happen (and also whether or not she should call...

Cake pops

A good friend of ours is pregnant and when I found out there was a surprise baby shower for her, a billion thoughts went running through my mind and started fighting with each other on what to make. Thinking of trying my hand at fondant, I went out and bought some from a cake supply place near me and also grabbed some food colouring gel and powder to make it baby blue. Fast forward a month and who the hell has time? Well that’s not true. Its not that I didn’t have time, it’s that I was meant to do a ‘dry run’ prior to the event and kept putting it off due to, well, laziness. So about two weeks before the event I had narrowed it down to either the cake with fondant (risky without a dry run) or some simple cake pops. Ding ding! We have a...

Mega Cupcake

I am a sucker for kitchen gadgets, especially those made of silicone. I don’t know what it is, silicone just gets me. Perhaps years of having everything stick to, well everything has scarred me for life. Along came the mega cupcake silicone mould. Its gadget, silicone, novelty and CAKE all rolled in to one. So, I had to have one. After waiting until they were suitably priced, I purchased one online and couldn’t wait for it to arrive. Finally my day had come, just in time for my mother’s birthday. Handy! Some die hard cake makers may want to block their ears, but I used packet mixes for lack of time. I purchased two as I had previously read the moulds can take a lot of batter. I settled on a butter cake base and a banana cake top. Wanting to use the filling facility, I decided to make...
