Cumulus Inc – Melbourne

A few months back I went on a girl’s weekend to Melbourne. If I was to live anywhere else in Australia, it would be Melbourne. I absolutely adore it. It has never let me down. Be it shopping, food or festivals, Melbourne does it all, and does it damn well! This weekend was no different. We spent obscene reasonably large amounts of money shopping (most of mine were sales so I didn’t feel so bad ;)), ate like we had starved ourselves for the trip, and caught up with some awesome Melbourne peeps. The stand out for me, for the entire long weekend of eating, was breakfast. I know right? Who even counts brekkie really? It’s just sustenance to fuel us for more shopping! But on our very first day in Melbourne, we headed to Cumulus Inc. on Flinders Lane, and I have been talking about it ever since....

Bill’s – Darlinghurst

March 16, 2012

I had wanted to go to Bill’s for his famous ricotta hotcakes for, well, EVER! So when we stayed in Darlo the night of my hens, a hungover morning was prime time, or so I convinced Debs! Its like foodie fate I tells ya! A short walk to the café and it’s very much like someone’s house that’s been converted in to a café. They even have the community table with fresh flowers in what looks like it would be the dining room of Bill’s home. I adore this place and we haven’t even got a table yet! We waited about 15 minutes or so and were seated towards the back at a table for two. As much as I do love the community table, I’m too hungover to be exposed to other humans right now. Stick me in the corner. It’s for the best. There was talk of...

Platform 7 – Sydenham

Platform 7 – Sydenham

Sydenham is a suburb that you don’t necessarily think of when it comes to cafes. Well I don’t anyway. Stud always refers to Sydenham as a train station and nothing else as the only time he has ever been, is to change trains on his way somewhere else. Don’t judge him, he’s not from here 😉 but it is actually really close to our home so when the lovely people at Food Morning offered us a breakfast deal at Platform 7, who are we to knock it back? We arrived just after 10:00am and as the inside of the café was full, sat outside. It’s not a large place, probably about four tables inside seating a total of around 10 people and then three small tables outside. The one thing I would say is that being Sydenham, the flight path is right above you so it does get quite...

Brasserie Bread Cafe – Banksmeadow

I have been harassing Stud about going to Brasserie Bread for breakfast ever since I did their Sourdough course. The café smelt amazing and every dish that went past while I was waiting, looked perfect! We headed over Sunday at around 11am and it was already pretty packed although we only waited a few minutes for a table. Just enough time to point out the brownies to Stud and for him to surprisingly agree on taking a couple home with us. What? Really?? After looking at the menu and trying to decide between savoury and sweet, we finally decided to get two savoury dishes that we were both eyeing off and just go halvies. The Poached Eggs with Smoked Trout and Parsley and Feta on Toast ($12), and Crispy Bacon and Poached Egg with Avocado and Tomato on Wholemeal Toast ($12). Stud ordered a skinny weak cap with two...

Granola a La Studd

Granola a La Studd

In an attempt to eat healthier, I went on the lookout for a low calorie granola recipe. There were bits of some I liked but then also bits I didn’t so after searching through a lot of recipes, I decided to come up with one of my own. A mixture of things I would like to see added to my granola, and also things I just happened to have in the cupboard at the time. I call it, Granola a La Studd! Original, catchy, I like it. Ingredients 2 cups oats (not instant) ¼ cup brown sugar 1/3 cup apple juice 1/3 cup honey 1/3 cup chia seeds ½ cup slivered almonds ¼ cup coconut ¼ cup dried apricots 1 tsp vanilla essence 1tbs olive oil Method Preheat oven to 180°. Place brown sugar, apple juice and honey in a saucepan and heat on medium until combined. Once combined,...
