SOY Japanese Restaurant – Bondi

Its no secret that Stud and I are massive Japanese fans. Of all cuisines, its def our fave so fresh, reasonably healthy (depending on what you order of course) and just so damn tasty!! So when we were out in Bondi on the hottest day in summer to date (well, to that date anyway), preparing ourselves for the Sculptures by the Sea, we wanted something filling yet light enough that I wouldn’t get a stitch – I’m prone to stitches post meal, but that’s another story. Anyway, we walked past SOY and thought it looked really cool, had a quick glance at the menu and we were sold. We arrived at around 12pm and it was pretty dead. Really just a few other diners and us. It looked like we missed the rush though as about 25mins later, the place was buzzing and people were waiting for a table....

Salted caramels + 2011 faves

On the eve of new years, I thought it might be appropriate for a quick and easy recipe, and a little look back at the year that was 2011. First up, a quick and impressive recipe for salted caramels that I used to make special Christmas treats for family and friends.  Unfortunately, I didn’t actually take any “proper” photos of these and the last I had was the Instagram of the final unwrapped product, but you get the gist Salted caramels Adapted from epicurious Ingredients 1 cup thickened cream 5 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces 1 teaspoon sea salt flakes 1 1/2 cups caster sugar 1/4 cup glucose 1/4 cup water Method Line bottom and sides of an 8-inch square baking pan with non stick baking paper, then lightly oil paper. Bring cream, butter, and salt to a boil in a small saucepan, then remove from heat and set...

Sushi Hon – Sydney Westfield

Santa has come and gone for another year and I hope all of you had a wonderful day with family, friends, food, and Michael Buble (of course). Stud and I did the usual family lunch, stuffed ourselves silly and then came home to watch Love Actually and have toast for dinner lol. Boxing Day was spent in the city. First time ever for both of us actually braving the Boxing Day sales. Never. Again! It was a nice day out but not massively relaxing haha. We did manage to slip in a quick lunch at Sushi Hon as Stud was craving a Japo fix. I didn’t actually realise until after but apparently, Sushi Hon has the longest sushi train in the southern hemisphere. I have to say, it didn’t look to massive when we were there but we were seated right at the front so didn’t go in too...

The Meeting Point – Haymarket

Have you ever eaten tripe? I have to say, pre-foodieness, I was so anti offal and anti anything exotic really. Post foodieness, I am so keen to try new and wonderful things! I’d actually seen Heston do tripe and take it to the streets on one of his shows and the public really liked it. I think that’s the go with most food really, as long as its cooked well, anything can be delicious! Stud and I haven’t had much experience with Taiwanese food so it was like foodie fate when the lovely people at Food Morning asked if I would like to go and review The Meeting Point in Haymarket. Would I? Ummmm we’ve met right? Hell yeah!! Admittedly, it took us a little while to find the place – going all around the inside of Market City and then pretty much a loop of the outside, I...

This months Sweet Adventures Blog Hop (#SABH) is “Festive Favourites” of course. What else? and hosted by the lovely JJ from 84th&3rd. Head on over to her SABH post for details on how you can join the hop with a bunch of other awesome food bloggers get involved! Its too much fun!! Christmas is definitely my favourite holiday. It’s such a great time of year! Everyone is really festive and mostly drunk from all the Christmas parties lol – it’s jut a happy time. If I had my way, it would be Christmas all year round in our household. Stud has to reign me in a bit – much to my dismay Normally each Christmas, I make a trifle, Christmas ice cream (vanilla ice-cream combined with mixed fruit and nut, and chocolate) and then maybe a fruit salad. This year, I wanted to make something different o with my...

Mushroom baklava

As you guys know, I am a big fan of mushrooms. Much to the delight of my father who, when I was younger, use to cook mushrooms on a regular basis, only to have my mother and I turn our nose up. And when I say turn our nose up, I mean whinge and whine at the disgusting smell of those horrid little fungi. On the night that I had posted my Japanese Mushroom Risotto, I was on Twitter and saw a tweet from Christie @ Fig and Cherry asking if there was anyone who loved mushrooms. With a very excitable yes and a link to the post I had done that morning, we were quickly on our way to making sweet mushroom music together. Lately, I would say due to our health kick to get in shape for The Wedding, mushrooms have become part of the family (well...

High Tea @ Aki’s Indian – Woolloomooloo

I do love a girly catch up. I feel like if there are ladies, catching up on the goss and really just life in general, then high tea is in order. But there are only so many times you can do high tea before you are trying the same sandwiches, the same scones and the same petit four. Ok, usually the petit four is the different element depending on where you go, but you get my point! So, what are the girls to do when they want something different, but still dainty? Aki’s! I had seen a few reviews quite a while back about Aki’s but it was a newsletter from Lime & Tonic that prompted me to get my butt in to gear and actually book it. Unfortunately, the day we had booked, was actually a miserable day with rain, clouds and umbrellas as far as the eye...
