I wasn’t sure I was going to make this months SABH. March has been a bit of a blur in the DWAS household. With Stud’s parents arriving the first weekend, Stud’s birthday the weekend after, a 5 night stint in Melbourne for Grand Prix and then our US trip next weekend, this was really the only free time we had to get everything in order ready for said trip…..and I got sick. Argh!!! Pity party over, I did decide to whip up a little batch of Easter cupcakes with a twist. Remember the ones I made last year? Coda Bar + Restaurant – Melbourne

Around this time last year (pre vego/pesco change), I headed down to Melbourne for a girly weekend and caught up with a gorgeous little food blogger I had met at Eat Drink Blog. Her mission: show us her Town! The original plan was to head to Chin Chin however due to the first available table being at 11pm, it wasn’t to be. We were hungry, and we weren’t waiting! So we headed to Coda. I don’t want that at all to sound like it was a bad thing. Yes, it was our second choice, but upon entering, we were welcomed in and accommodated immediately, menus at the ready, and the last table in the joint. Remember a little while ago I made that Angelic Hot Fudge Sauce? Simple, warming, delicious – and funnily enough, for a SABH! Well using similar ingredients, I’m flipping the temperature dial to cold – and I mean fuh-reez-ing – because this months Sweet Adventures Blog Hop is……Licence to Chill! So I’m not a massive coffee connoisseur. I don’t claim to be. At all. I know what I like, and that usually involves at least two sugars (or equals…..you know, if they have them). You see I never really drank coffee at all, until Stud bought an at home pro coffee machine thingy and made me try every coffee until he’d perfected it. Seven coffees later and I had the worst coffee anxiety ever! But you know, at least he got the balance right. So now I’ll have the occasional coffee when we’re out, like the amazeballs latte I had at Cumulus Inc, but mostly just the coffees Stud makes at home. Just a little update on the Cook for Your Career  (C4YC) comp so you can back your fave 🙂 The HOSTPLUS C4YC have just announced the two finalists who will battle it out in the Grand Finale Cook-off on March 2 at the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival “Artisan Market and Cellar Door” event. Rod Parbery (NSW) and Toni McAnalen (WA) were the chosen ones this year and will be showing everying their mad skills, in order to win an apprenticeship in a tres awesome restaurant in their state. That means its either Print Hall (WA) or Peter Doyle @ The Quay (NSW) – ZOMG! Well jel! But hold the phone, before they can do that, they must win over the peeps for this years People’s Choice Award. Stud and I aren’t massive beach people. We’re both pretty pale, aren’t a fan of screaming people, I have a bit of a sand phobia, and Kev has seen one too many Jaws films to want to go in to the ocean too often. Dont get me wrong, I used to LOVE the beach! Spending many a childhood weekends down the south coast in Gerringong, with my entire family squeezed in to a caravan and hanging out at the beach pretty much every day. I love swimming in the ocean, I just don’t like getting burnt or getting sand in my shoes, or anywhere for that matter (no really, the sand thing is pretty bad. Its embarrassing really). I do however, love a good tropical dessert! It might be a dessert with tropical ingredients – gorgeous fruits, creamy coconuts, refreshing ices – or it might be something wonderfully light...

A little while ago, I was lucky enough to be given some Heilala Vanilla products to try. Heilala – pronounced hey-la-la – is 100% pure vanilla and direct from the plantations. This is the good stuff people! In all honesty, I have had this little sample for a wee while. When you have something special in your hot little hands, you want to make something special with it. I didn’t want to do the normal cupcakes or custard, or something you would traditionally use vanilla for. I wanted to do something savoury.
