Noodle Inn – Randwick

So Stud and I are coming up to the year mark on our vegetarian (pescatarian really) adventure and I have to say, it’s gone pretty smoothly. Sure there’s been backlash from friends and family, sure it’s a little more challenging when you go out to eat, but all in all its been pretty easy. But now we’re in Winter. Normally in Winter we would head down to Marrickville and grab some ramen. Which literally translates (in my mind) to “hug in a very large bowl”. That thick rich porky stock is pretty tough to beat in winter. Or so I thought! We were invited to check out Noodle Inn over at Randwick (which by the way, has an AMF right down the street) so on a cold and damp evening, we dragged our sorry butts off the couch and in to the East. Noodle Inn is a reasonably new...

Pan-fried haloumi with a Spicy Passionfruit Vinaigrette

Pan-fried haloumi with a Spicy Passionfruit Vinaigrette

A little while ago, an unassuming little package appeared on my doorstep. Not overly heavy, but heavy enough to make me giddy with excitement. “PRESENTS!” I shouted in my best Despicable me (SO FLUFFY) voice, and brought my gift inside to unwrap. As I undid the ribbon and lifted the lid, I was greeted with 9 rather large passionfruit staring back at me. Ok, they weren’t staring, duh, but they were there ok, and they were gorgeous! Last time I was in a very similar situation, I made Passionfruit Pastilles a la Heston (well kind of). This time I wanted to flip the universe a little. You see, passionfruit are extremely sweet little fruits. So what goes with something extremely sweet? Extremely salty!! First thought, haloumi! Holla! Could I do it? Could I make passionfruit vinaigrette to drizzle over some piping hot, pan-fried haloumi? Well, let’s give it a...

Niji Sushi – Kingsford

When people find out I’m a food blogger, usually the first question they ask is “What’s your favourite restaurant”. But I think that its because I’m a food blogger, that its probably the hardest question for me to answer. We are constantly trying out new places, not just so I can get a new post up, but also because we want to get a good variety, try out other peoples recommendations, or have just driven past so may times that it’s a must to go in. I can say however – without a shadow of a doubt – that my favourite cuisine is Japanese. Stud and I definitely have this in common, so most of the places we do tend to frequent, are Japanese restaurants ranging from little hole in the wall locals, to your more upmarket places. I think Niji Sushi in Kingsford fits nicely in the upper...

Raw Chocolate Ganache Tart – May’s SABH

Im soooooo excited about this months Sweet Adventures Blog Hop! As the hostess with the mostess this month, I got to choose the theme, and as you guys are aware, I chose raw! There was a little bit of confusion around the theme, but its something I have been looking in to since going veggie. There really is a whole world out there of food techniques and beliefs that I hadn’t even fathomed. After watching a raw dessert being made on an episode of Veg, I knew I had to try it. Its looked perfectly fudgy and decadent, but was completely raw, completely vegan, and completely good for you!! 😮 I KNOW RIGHT?!?! So Raw Chocolate Ganache Tart – May’s SABH Adapted from The River Cottage Ingredients Base: 175g walnuts 125g almonds 1 tsp salt 200g dates. Filling: 4 medium sized ripe avocados 150g virgin coconut oil 200g raw cacao...

Vintage Glam Mud Cupcakes – Happy Mother’s Day!

Last year I made mum a Berry & Cream Cheese Pound Cake with Lemon Drizzle for Mother’s Day. A simple but very effective (she said it was one of my best) way of saying I love you, and thanks for putting up with me for 30 years. This year, I wanted to do something with a little more pizazz. Something that still says I love you, and thanks for putting up with me for 30 years, but also creates a sense of beauty with everyone it comes in contact with (with minimal effort of course). Last week I was given a box of Queens new Soft Sugar Pearls. You guys know cachous? They’re pretty much the same thing, only slightly larger and way softer – meaning you can consume more and not break a tooth….win! So I wanted to use these as a perfect way to add some old school...

Yume Sushi – Gladesville

When I mention to people the name of my blog, they immediately look at Stud and then kind of put two and two together. Sometimes they get four, sometimes they get eight. Stud actually used to (well still does really) call me Studd as its part of my surname. So when creating Dining with a Stud, it really had a double meaning. However the other night, I realised that it also had a third! When I gave my card to Sarah – our waitress at Yume Sushi – she immediately gestured to her lip, and to the silver stud piercing I have in my lip. It had never even occurred to me! I kind of forget they’re there until someone stares at them while talking to me lol. They’re just part of my face now really. Stud and I were invited to try out Yume Sushi’s new Gladesville restaurant,...
