Niji Sushi – Kingsford

June 15, 2013

When people find out I’m a food blogger, usually the first question they ask is “What’s your favourite restaurant”. But I think that its because I’m a food blogger, that its probably the hardest question for me to answer. We are constantly trying out new places, not just so I can get a new post up, but also because we want to get a good variety, try out other peoples recommendations, or have just driven past so may times that it’s a must to go in. I can say however – without a shadow of a doubt – that my favourite cuisine is Japanese. Stud and I definitely have this in common, so most of the places we do tend to frequent, are Japanese restaurants ranging from little hole in the wall locals, to your more upmarket places. I think Niji Sushi in Kingsford fits nicely in the upper...

Vintage Glam Mud Cupcakes – Happy Mother’s Day!

Vintage Glam Mud Cupcakes – Happy Mother’s Day!

Last year I made mum a Berry & Cream Cheese Pound Cake with Lemon Drizzle for Mother’s Day. A simple but very effective (she said it was one of my best) way of saying I love you, and thanks for putting up with me for 30 years. This year, I wanted to do something with a little more pizazz. Something that still says I love you, and thanks for putting up with me for 30 years, but also creates a sense of beauty with everyone it comes in contact with (with minimal effort of course). Last week I was given a box of Queens new Soft Sugar Pearls. You guys know cachous? They’re pretty much the same thing, only slightly larger and way softer – meaning you can consume more and not break a tooth….win! So I wanted to use these as a perfect way to add some old school...

Yume Sushi – Gladesville

Yume Sushi – Gladesville

When I mention to people the name of my blog, they immediately look at Stud and then kind of put two and two together. Sometimes they get four, sometimes they get eight. Stud actually used to (well still does really) call me Studd as its part of my surname. So when creating Dining with a Stud, it really had a double meaning. However the other night, I realised that it also had a third! When I gave my card to Sarah – our waitress at Yume Sushi – she immediately gestured to her lip, and to the silver stud piercing I have in my lip. It had never even occurred to me! I kind of forget they’re there until someone stares at them while talking to me lol. They’re just part of my face now really. Stud and I were invited to try out Yume Sushi’s new Gladesville restaurant,...

Coda Bar + Restaurant – Melbourne

February 26, 2013
By

Around this time last year (pre vego/pesco change), I headed down to Melbourne for a girly weekend and caught up with a gorgeous little food blogger I had met at Eat Drink Blog. Her mission: show us her Town! The original plan was to head to Chin Chin however due to the first available table being at 11pm, it wasn’t to be. We were hungry, and we weren’t waiting! So we headed to Coda. I don’t want that at all to sound like it was a bad thing. Yes, it was our second choice, but upon entering, we were welcomed in and accommodated immediately, menus at the ready, and the last table in the joint. We ordered a glass of Prosecco while we pondered the menu, and decided on a bunch of dishes to share: That’s Amore Buffalo mozzarella, zucchini fritters, mint and pea salad Definitely the stand out...

Nescafe Dolce Gusto

February 23, 2013

So I’m not a massive coffee connoisseur. I don’t claim to be. At all. I know what I like, and that usually involves at least two sugars (or equals…..you know, if they have them). You see I never really drank coffee at all, until Stud bought an at home pro coffee machine thingy and made me try every coffee until he’d perfected it. Seven coffees later and I had the worst coffee anxiety ever! But you know, at least he got the balance right. So now I’ll have the occasional coffee when we’re out, like the amazeballs latte I had at Cumulus Inc, but mostly just the coffees Stud makes at home. We have our little routine on weekends – we get up, I make brekkie and he makes the coffee, then we sit down and watch IQ until about midday when it’s time to face the day. I...

Squid Ink Risotto with Vanilla Salted Scallops

Squid Ink Risotto with Vanilla Salted Scallops

A little while ago, I was lucky enough to be given some Heilala Vanilla products to try. Heilala – pronounced hey-la-la – is 100% pure vanilla and direct from the plantations. This is the good stuff people! In all honesty, I have had this little sample for a wee while. When you have something special in your hot little hands, you want to make something special with it. I didn’t want to do the normal cupcakes or custard, or something you would traditionally use vanilla for. I wanted to do something savoury. Actually, I originally had my eye on a beef dish (I told  you it had been a while), but with the recent diet changes, I thought I would try my hand at a seafood that’s renowned for its sweetness, and give it the Heilala touch 🙂 Although not massively prominent, you do get the aftertaste of the...

Concrete Blonde – Kings Cross

Concrete Blonde – Kings Cross

Most people have what they fondly remember as their “stomping ground”. A place where they frequented in their youth and have some fond (and not so fond) memories of their time there, parting the night away with old friends, and normally meeting a few along the way. For me, said stomping ground was Kings Cross. It’s had many names over the years, and now goes by “The Club”…original, I know 😉 and is actually surrounded by a number of funky little food joints. The most popular, and longest standing being Hugo’s. A reasonably new kid on the block is Concrete Blonde – up a level from The Club, on the other side of Hugo’s. A great place to listen to a little jazz on a Sunday, or on the other days, you can sip them away with $7 cocktails before 7pm. Now I know I’m trying to drink less this...

Puntino Trattoria – Woolloomooloo

November 11, 2012

Woolloomooloo is pretty well known to Sydneysiders as the swanky place by the bay. It’s where Russell Crow lives. It’s where the rich and famous come for a casual dinner in sky high heels. It’s where the rest of us go for a very special occasion dinner, or a work lunch when work’s paying 😉 With my sense of direction, (Stud will read this and I will do doubt get an “I told you so”) its quite easy for me to either not know where I am, walk the wrong way down a street I have been to a million times, or just get lost all together (thank God for my iPhone!). So I was pretty surprised to find out how big Woolloomooloo actually is! Did you know that it goes all the way up Crown Street, almost to William Street? Oh really? Ok maybe it’s just me then....

Masterchef Live 2012 with Queen, and an interview

Masterchef Live 2012 with Queen, and an interview

You all know about Queen Finefoods right? Remember my Margarita Sorbet? My Salted Caramel Gelato? Or maybe my Strawberry Balsamic Gelato? Well thanks to those posts, I was lucky enough to be invited to Masterchef Live a couple of weeks back to join in on one of the Queen Finefoods workshops. I have to admit, Im pretty well versed in the essence section of Queen, and also their Vanilla Bean paste (amazeballs!) but I hadn’t actually used any of their other products. The workshop with Queen was to showcase the cake decorating range and included their writing pens (Glitter of course, a way to my heart), cachous (which I had no idea how to pronounce properly before that day) and the icing flowers. I would have never actually picked any of these up to buy them. Maybe the cachous, but probably not. So it was a great way for...

Random Thailand eats

A little less conversation a little more food porn…. Here’s a few random eats that Stud and I experienced on our honeymoon. I have to say, in 2 weeks of lunches and dinners, we weren’t really too disappointed. Win 😀
