Chicken Wonton and Spicy Noodle Soup

Back when I was in high school, my dad did a Chinese cooking course. He was always so excited to come home and show off his skills, but they were wasted on mum and I. We didn’t like chilli, ginger, mushrooms, tofu…..well the list went on really. Fast forward 10 years (wow that makes me feel old!) and I can’t get enough of food, cooking and learning about both. I wish I had had gone to those classed with dad but I guess back then I would have failed to appreciate it. Im still on the lookout for a class we can go to together that’s in the area (St George or Canterbury) so if anyone out there has any suggestions, please let me know. Flicking through my magazines whilst completing my quarterly recipe cull, I came across a recipe for Chicken Wonton and Spicy Noodle Soup and decided...

A very Studdy Christmas

I love Christmas. No, just so we’re clear, I mean I freaking LOVE Christmas. I had been whining since August about putting up our Christmas tree and finally in November when i was having a very bad day, Stud caved to make me feel better. Most people say its bad luck to erect the tree before December but I say phooey to that! How can anything to do with Christmas be bad luck?? This year was extra special. Not only was it our first Christmas in our new home that we actually own (hence wouldn’t have to worry about sticking/nailing/hanging decorations for fear of permanent damage and no bond back) but also, Stud’s parents were visiting from overseas and it would be his first Christmas with them in 12 years. I wanted to make the dinner as special as the occasion so had been planning the menu for a...

Every month I saunter past the newsagency and stick my head in to see what new cooking magazines have been released. It’s somewhat of an obsession and I’m pretty sure the lady at Wynyard thinks I’m a little crazy. I try and vary my newsagency loitering with different times and areas as she gave me a look one day that I will never forget. I felt a slight ping of shame as she stared at me like an addict looking for their next hit. I plan on culling my books as soon as I get them but this never really works and I end up having about 10-15 magazines to go through in one hit as they pile up on our coffee table and Stud starts to drop not-so-subtle hints that they need to be moved or will be thrown out. On my most recent cull I came across...

Operation Recipe Cull

Not only do I have a cookbook fetish, I am also slightly addicted (ok slightly might be an understatement – I LOVE LOVE LOVE them and cant wait until the beginning of the month when I can get more MoRe MORE!!!) to recipe magazines. I had taken over majority of our old bookcase with magazine holders galore and needless to say Stud was getting a little over it. Commence “Operation Recipe Cull” (ORC)!! ORC began about a year ago and entails me going through every magazine I own, slicing out the ones I will actually use (or just look really tasty) and putting them all in A4 binders. I have grouped all of them by type (entree, veggie, pasta/pizza, beef, chicken, you get my drift) and have reduced my obsession to only 4 folders. I started with one folder so I guess this is another bookcase take-over but at...
